Botswana: Semotswane village Child Protection Committee hosted a sponsored walk to campaign for children’s right to safety. The child protection committee worked together with relevant stakeholders and the community to organize the walk.
The aim of the walk was to help the members of the community bring their attention to the pressing issues affecting children. The child protection committee highlighted that they want to ensure that all the children in the community can leave a safe and peaceful life
The initiative was conceptualized in light of the increasing numbers of crimes being reported against minors all over East Africa. The officials have shared that they want to make sure that children can confide in their families and authorities.
The committee wants to encourage children to reach out to the relevant authorities in the event that they are abused or assaulted. The child protection march sought to sensitize the people of the community on the best ways to navigate a child abuse situation. Accordingly, it is imperative for the people

Moikothai from Gender Affairs department led the sponsored walk and took on the role of chief walker for the day. She shared valuable insights with the community on the crucial roles parents play in the upbringing of children.
She also shed light on the devastating impact of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on the young ones in the village.
Kgomotsego Mpagase, the Social Welfare and Community Development (S&CD) officer, also took the opportunity to address the participants. She expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in child-related cases in the village, including defilement, rape, and neglect.
She further urged everyone present to come together and work collectively to protect and support the children of Semotswane.
