Siabasimbi Village man found dead in maize field

The wife of a 45-year-old man of Siabasimbi Village in Siachitema Chiefdom, Kalomo District found him dead in a Maize field.

Zambia: The wife of a 45-year-old man of Siabasimbi Village in Siachitema Chiefdom, Kalomo District found him dead in a Maize field. The wife of the deceased found him in the early hours of the morning at the location close to his house.

After the wife discovered the body of the suspect, the cousin of the victim reported the incident to the police. The officials have started the investigation into the matter and shared that the victim has been identified as Cosmas Magalo.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio talked to the media about the incident. He shared that the officers who rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying in a maize field.

They clarified that the location is about 120 meters away from the house. They investigated the body of the deceased and revealed that he suffered an injury at the back of the head.

A blunt object is suspected to have been used in the murder. There is also an injury on the scrotum of the deceased as the murderer allegedly used bare hands to squeeze them.

As per the initial investigations, the deceased was sleeping in his house with his junior most spouse. At the time, the first and second wives were away for a funeral in the neighbouring village.

Around 00:00 hours, the deceased heard some cow bells outside and deduced that his cattle had come out of the kraal. The witnesses revealed to the police officials that he had locked the cattle when they came from the grazing area.

The victim woke up from the voices and wrapped himself with the wife’s chitenge material. Further, he got a small phone to use as a torch and woke up his 19-year-old son to help him bring the cattle back to the kraal.

He managed to bring back the cattle to the kraal but noticed that one was still missing. At this time, he went back into the house and got a bigger phone to go and look for the missing animal.

He asked his son to stand guard at the kraal and the deceased went to the maize field to look for the missing animal. The victim was taking too long to come back, so the wife went out of the house only to find the son guarding the kraal.

She later alerted her husband’s nephew and a sister and began to look for her husband and at O2:00 hours. They heard the ringing of the alarm from the victim’s phone and when they followed the direction of the sound, they found him lifeless.
