South Africa: Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela, MEC for Social Development Motlagomang “Mamiki ” Qabathe, and MEC for Health Montseng Tsiu are currently commemorating International Widows’ Day in SAU Auditorium, 2 Fairview Street, Naval Hill.
This is an awareness day of the United Nations (UN) that is observed throughout the world to recognize and discuss the hardship that Widows face when their spouses die.
Free State Government, in partnership with stakeholders such as Master of High Court, Home Affairs, Human rights Commission, and National Development Agency, organized a Widows’ dialogue as part of Social Development Social responsibility and also assisted Widows’ in finding support emotionally, economically etc.

It is in this regard that the Department of Social Development in the Free State, through the Women Empowerment Programme, has created a platform for Widows under the Community Development and Partnership to have a dialogue that will focus on their needs, challenges and frustrations.
Free State Government in Partnership will all stakeholders is serious about community development, Parenting, Promoting Human Rights, and Poverty Alleviation for the people of the Free State.
The reason behind celebrating International Widow’s Day!
International Widows day; is a day introduced to address poverty and injustice faced by widows and their children in the world. The government will ensure economic and social reforms that address their rights.
There is a girl who was only 16 when she got married, and by the age of 21, she was a widowed mother of two.

And she struggled to build a new life, so she decided to start an NGO in order to help other women who had been shunned by society.
