After reporting the abandoned baby, the woman terminated the call. She then called a second time and provided a vague location. She further provided a contact number on request of the Controller on Duty.

When Reaction Officers got to the location, the baby could not be located.  The contact details, name and address provided were fictitious.  After the calls, Controller retrieved the telephone records.

At the time, it was established that the female had called from an unknown number at 12:06 & 12:09. The Reaction Officer listened in on the audio telephone recording, however it could not be established if the caller herself had abandoned the baby.

The reaction unit officers have shared a video of their efforts to locate the baby in Verulam. In the video, a team of RUSA officers can be seen interacting with each other and discussing the possible course of action.

The search continues after a week of the initial phone calls. The people of South Africa have expressed their concern for the abandoned child’s safety. Many social media users speculated that the caller was the one who abandoned the new born.

Inspired by this line of thought, some other people of the community hoped that the woman changed her mind and went back to take the baby. The people are praying for the safety of the new born and appreciated RUSA for their dedicated work.
