South Sudan, JUBA: President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday met with His Majesty Reth Kwongo Dak Padiet, the King of Chollo Kingdom, to discuss ways to end the ongoing violence in the Upper Nile Region.
Speaking to the Press after the meeting, the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs, Tut Galuak Manime said the meeting also discussed the need for peace in Greater Upper Nile.
Tut further explained that the President is deeply saddened about the ongoing violence in the area and called upon the leaders of Greater Upper Nile to also join hands in resolving the violence in the area for people to live in peace and harmony.
In his remarks, King Kwongo called upon the people of Upper Nile to shun violence and join hands to work together to restore peace, unity and development in the area.
Residents of South Sudan are very happy with the initiative of their government because they consider this a lead to the solution to the Upper Nile conflict. They also thanked President for inviting the King of Cholo Kingdom.
Another user commented, “There is no problem with the King or Makuach of Gawaar. The great issue is Olony, who provoked the violence. Since then, he has been killing people in Tunja, and other parts of Chollo and Shilluk are praising him like he was doing the right things.
Furthermore, he added, “Now the government need to call him to come to Juba to prevent further violence in the state second; the current state government is doing nothing. The President need to look into that also.”
John Thaloka Tur, another user, commented, “It’s a great step toward finding a great solution to the great problem facing the region, but I think the President as the superior man in the nation, should not push the issue in the hands of the Upper Nile leaders. Because if they had the solution, they could brought it long ago, and the king of Collo came to the President to get an immediate response from his excellency. Calling out of the Upper Nile sons and daughters alone will not bring a quick solution as we’re expected if done by the President of the republic.”
