Mauritius: Minister of Youth and Sports, Darmarajen Nagalingum visited the Mare d’Albert Swimming Pool on Friday morning. The aim of the visit is to assess the state and functionality of the swimming pool. The Minister of Sports was accompanying Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Chitraduthsing Lukeeram.
Sports Minister Nagalingum spoke to the media after concluding the visit to the swimming pool and shared his worry on the state of the pool. He claimed that the infrastructure for the swimming pool is sub standard and needs improvement.
He said that if the situation is allowed to continue unchecked, they will have to deal with health crises.
Minister Nagalingum pointed out that the swimming pool is not currently operational which is a major inconvenience for the locals. The people of the community are not able to engage in their swimming and fitness activities. He has accordingly highlighted the importance of having regular maintenance of Sports facilities.
This will make sure that proper services are provided to the public and that they can take advantage of every available infrastructure.
Moreover, the Minister announced that the government of Mauritius is dedicated to bring the changes to provide the opportunity to the population across all regions of the country. They want to make sure that the people have the chance to practice sports activities within convenient sports infrastructure.
The Minister announced that the government is starting repair and upgrade works are starting and will be completed in the two months, within target. This will help to ensure the resumption of all the sporting activities at the earliest possible time.
The Minister of Sports announced that the government will be organizing a competition to commemorate National Day in March.
The Minister of Sports has announced that he will be conducting site visits in all the Youth Centres of Mauritius to make sure that they are in top shape in terms of functionality.
MP Lukeeram, who had accompanied the Minister of Sports has also shared that the swimming pool is a crucial piece of infrastructure. It is a platform for community members to participate in sports activities.
