Zambia: A 13-year-old girl from Airport Compound in Livingstone has reportedly been defiled by a man. The suspect has been identified only by his first name Zimba. He is a resident of the Mwandi Compound and defiled the teenager on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 17:00 hours within the Airport Compound. The victim reached out to her mother sometime after the assault happened, and informed her about wat happened.
Afterwards, The victim’s mother promptly reported the matter to Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Police Station. According to the Southern Province Police, the report was made the following day of the incident, that is Monday.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka shared the details of the incident. He said that the victim’s mother had sent her to sell vegetables in the area around 09:00 hours in the morning.
Further, after the victim had completed her sales, she returned home and informed her mother. Later, around 15:00 hours, the victim’s mother sent her back to collect payment for the vegetables sold on credit.
On her way home after collecting the money, the victim encountered the perpetrator. He took her into the bush, undressed her, and committed the heinous act.
The victim did not immediately inform her mother about the incident immediately. As per the police a friend saw the suspect taking the victim to a nearby bush.
At this point, the mother realized what had happened and she took her daughter to the Zambia Airforce Force sick quarters. Further, the victim was given a check up at the sick quarters. A docket has been opened, but no arrest has been made yet.
The Police force has assured the mother that they are continuing the investigation of the incident and will give the victim justice. The people of Livingstone have shared that the suspect should get the strictest punishment for his actions.
The people of Zambia shared that several communities are experiencing a spike in crimes against minors. People said that the world is turning extremely cold in light of the increasing instances of these crimes.
