Botswana: The Ministry of Education launched the Adopt a School Initiative at Travel Lodge in Gaborone. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the and Skills Development and TRANS Cash & Carry.

The members of the Ministry of Education has shared some glimpses from the launch event on their social media. They have called the programme transformative for the education sector of the country. Under this programme, TRANS adopted 16 schools across the country in villages where they have stores.

The Adopt a school initiative is aimed at driving a positive change within local educational institutions. They would do this by enhancing learning environments, supporting educational initiatives. They will be taking the initiative to empower students for a brighter future in their lives.

According to the Ministry of Education Trans Cash & Carry adopt a school  proram will be executed in three stages. The initiative will be implemented across the country in the 14 locations where TRANS stores are established.

The Ministry shared the details of the programme with the general public, highlighting the crucial role it will play in the development of the educational infrastructure of Botswana.

The initiative is divided into three packages which include:

  • The Back to school package: This package will be providing school essentials and supplies to students at the beginning of the academic year.
  • The Prize Giving: Under this package, the programme will sponsor trophies and certificates to honor and celebrate achievements of top performers.
  • The Exam Care Package which will offer PSLE students exam packages including (Stationery).

The Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Steve M. Botlhasitse delivered a brief keynote address at the launch event. He appreciated the TRANS for adopting the 16 schools across Botswana.

He claimed that stakeholder participation is pivotal to the success of the education system. Further, the permanent secretary Botlhasitse stated that the initiative will help to address challenges in schools and to create a conducive learning environment.
