Botswana: Tutume McConnell Community College (TMCC) recently held its 50th anniversary celebrations. The festivity was supposed to have taken place in 2021 but was halted by the college administration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hugely attended celebration was fittingly themed, “Developing a 21st century learner who will fit and adapt well into the changing world.”
The Chief Executive Officer for Morupule Colliery Mine, Edwin Elias, who was the Guest Speaker for the day, expressed his gratitude to be part of the momentous commemoration and indicated that the school has a rich history and has produced men and women of high stature.
“I am standing here in a College that has produced many Botswana who have gone to make a mark in our economy and beyond”, he said.
Elias said the Mine is inspired by the Government’s desire to diversify the economy through the creation of a knowledge-based economy; as such the Mine continuously drives towards socio-economic goals which support other sectors of the economy. To truly point out this commitment, Morupule Colliery Mine awarded the school P100,000.00 towards the construction of a counselling centre block which will provide psychosocial support to learners.
The alumni of different classes also rewarded current learners and staff (both teaching and non-teaching) with prizes for excelling in academics as well as for providing the best teaching practices and good work ethics.
In 2019, Tutume McConnell Community College ranked in 9th position and was awarded by the Botswana government.
