South Africa: Two men have sustained serious injuries in a drive-by shooting which happened in the Verulam CBD (Central Business District). The accident in the evening hours of evening on Friday.
The members of the community heard several gunshots at the Wick Street area near the Central Business District. The community members then reached out to the Reaction Unit South Africa Verulam Operations Centre.
The business owners and pedestrians who called the RUSA office reported that they heard a volley of shots. At this point, all the reaction officers which were available near the location specified by the callers were dispatched.
The reaction officers reached the location at approximately 18:14 and started their investigation. The officials discovered a man in the driver’s seat of a silver VW Polo. He was shot multiple times in the body and face.
The man in the car’s driver’s seat had sustained severe injuries after the drive by shooting. The other victim who has reported injuries in the drive by shooting has been identified as a security officer.
The Security Officer was struck in thigh by a stray bullet which was shot towards the first victim.
Afterwards, the Paramedics from RUSA and KZN VIP worked together and stabalized the injured men. Later, both the men were taken to the hospital by the two organization
The Reaction Unit South Africa and KZN VIP found several 9mm and rifle cartridges at the scene in Verulam CBD. They also found a white VW Polo which was abandoned in front of the critically injured man’s car.
The rear window of the White VW Polo was shot at. The officials are not able to confirm if the vehicle was abandoned by the suspects. Witnesses are reporting that they had seen the silver Hyundai Elantra that was smashed at the rear fleeing the scene.
The registration of the car remains unknown and the motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage. The investigation will continue as the victims receive the treatment for their injuries.
The members of the community have taken to their social media to hope for a speedy recovery of the victims.
