Two suspected cable thieves arrested while on their way to Zimbabwe

Jo’burg Metro Police Department JMPD and SAPS officers in the JHB and CBD have arrested two suspects who were in possession of stolen cables in Johannesburg Central Business District.

The two suspect thieves were arrested after their vehicle was parked at the entrance of a Zimbabwean Bus Terminal.

As per sources, the copper cable two meters long cable and tools were discovered alongside other tools. 

However, the suspects stated that they were doing construction at FNB Stadium. Officers requested a wayleave as proof but failed to produce the document from City Power.

Moreover, the issue of cable hijacking is very common nowadays in Africa and becoming a daily occurrence in South Africa

“Jo’burg Metro Police Department”, also tweeted about the incident in which they clearly stated that they arrested 2x suspects. This arrest was made by #JMPD & #SAPS officers in the JHB CBD for possessing suspected stolen cables.

In another tweet, they mentioned that suspects claimed “they were doing construction at FNB Stadium. Officers requested for a wayleave as proof, but they failed to produce the document from City Power.”

 Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety, Former Joburg Chief of Police David Tembe-BuyaMthetho’ also tweeted in favour of JMPD police and raised their confidence by saying, “Well Done, officers”. 

However, many others also praised them and wrote well done along with the Mayoral. 

Moreover, a similar case also happened in 2020 when the JMPD unit was notified of two suspects on the corner of Albert and Loveday streets in the Joburg CBD cutting network cable.

The two were caught on CCTV footage on 9 February.

At that time also Mayoral Committee for Public Safety also tweeted about the incident.
