Popular South African singer, ‘Tyla’ has been voted as the Best Dressed Guest at Met Gala 2024 by the fans. Tyla pulled up a very unique outfit made up of sand paired with an hourglass.
The 22-year-old, ‘Water’ singer hit the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala event wearing dress covered completely with the real sand. She paired the sand covered Balmain gown with a matching purse, which was shaped like an hourglass. Tyla’s ephemeral dress has brought new meaning to the hourglass silhouette.
Reportedly, the official dress-code for the night was “The Garden of Time”. Tyla got inspired by “the sands of time” for the distinctive design, she told the Vogue.
Considerably, Tyla’s Balmain dress creative director – Olive Rousteing explained to the fashion outlet Vogue. “Idea of sculpting a garment from something as ephemeral as sand ignited my imagination and I could not be happier with the end result,” said the dress French designer.
Rousteing further explained that the strapless design was based on a cast of the singer’s body before the organza train was encased with the three different colors of sand, plus micro-crystal studs for some added shine.
It is strange, as Tyla would have had better hope as no one “makes her sweat” at the Met and it’s unclear how the gown stands up to wear and tear.
Eventually, Tyla did brought some water to the event, in the form of her manicure that was affixed with the clear drips at the tip.
A question did emerge in everyone’s head that how will she’d be able to sit in the sculptural styled design, to which she replied, “who cares, guys; I’m cute!”
The South African artist did have some help in navigating the steps of the museum at the start of the night, as five men were seen carrying the textured train. She also got lifted with some helpers physically, who picked her up to climb the stairs.
The star completed her look with a fresh-faced glam from Pat McGrath Labs, along with Skin Fetish Foundation of $69 and a shimmering swipe of Lust Lip Gloss in Faux Real of $29.
Additionally, she sparkled her look with dazzling bling that included the Alexis Bittar Solanales Crystal Skinny Collar Necklace, which costed $255.
The afro-artist marked the South African singer’s Met Gala debut, although she’s no stranger to turning heads on red carpets.
Earlier, at Grammys 2024, she took home her first-ever gramophone statuette and stunned everyone in an off-the-shoulder mint green Versace look.
Tyla never shies away to carry stunning outfits and surely, she will keep on amaze all with her show stopping looks.
