Victoria United FC wins protest against Yong Sports Academy

Victoria United of limbe revealed that they have filed a protest against three elite one clubs, citing allegations of double identification and forgery.

Cameroon: The Victoria United FC qualifies for the playoffs-up. The club has finally won their protest against Yong Sports Academy (YOSA).

Reportedly, six soccer players were suspended from YOSA for six matches. A football match was played between Yong Sports Academy and Victoria United which played 1-1 in Limbe, earlier.

After that match, Victoria United then filed a protest against Yong Sport claiming that, YOSA used six players with double identity.

As per the sources, the Disciplinary and Homologation committee checked into the matter and found that YOSA is guilty.

Considering this, YOSA was punished and initially one point from that match was removed and then six of their players were suspended for another coming six matches, which means they will only play one match in the playoffs.

The qualifying of Victoria United for the play-offs has followed the case, in which Victoria United of Limbe revealed that they have filed a protest against three elite one clubs, citing allegations of double identification and forgery.

As per the reports, the clubs which were accused of double identification and forgery were Avion Academy, UMS Loum and Yong Sports Academy. The claim stated that Avion Academy had one player with double identification, UMS Loum had ten players with double identification and Youns Sports Academy had six players with double identification all during their matches against Victoria United.

Following this, Victoria United, filed a protest that claimed the double identification and forgery of players breached that breached the Disciplinary Code of FECAFOOT of October 10th 2023.

Notably, the Disciplinary Code states that if a player is fielded in a match and pays a minimum fine of 100,000 CFA francs.

The code also stipulates that if negligible players are fielded in a competition, FECAFOOT’s judicial bodies, considering the integrity of the competition, may impose any disciplinary action, including forfeiture, on the club or association.

The code states that if allegations are found true, they could harm the accused clubs. However, the issue was then left for the FECAFOOT disciplinary committee to homologate the said matches.

Victoria United is also known as ‘Opopo’ and was founded in 2002. The Cameroonian football club is from the city of Limbe, who compete in the Elite One of Cameroon football.

The soccer team was relegated from Cameroon’s top flight in 2004. It returned in 2023 after winning the Elite Two 2022-23 championship. The club also won the South-West regional championship in 2021.
