The global summit, African Mining Indaba 2025 kicked off on Monday, Feb 03, 2025 in the legislative capital of South Africa, Cape Town, inviting the South African Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources – Gwede Mantashe, who called for cooperation to shape the future of the mining industry of the continent.
This is the 31st edition of the annual event, since its inception in 1994, that drew over 10,000 attendees including many industrial heavyweights.
Additionally, over 400 exhibitors attended the mining exhibition as the 2025 Indaba will also host the several intergovernmental summits, panel discussions, investment meetings, technology and innovation hubs and other activities.
Minister Gwede Mantashe delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the exhibition on behalf of South Africa President – Cyril Ramaphosa. He stressed majorly over the gathering as it precisely discussed mineral wealth of Africa and how its people can share or make their contribution in it.
Mantashe said that evidence was found that shows the African continent hosts significant reserves of industrially important minerals. He added that with the growing demand for these minerals, Africa needs to assert its advantage and take charge of the growing demand.
He noted that African countries could not continue debating these minerals based on the dictates of some developed countries as if they had no aspirations to accelerate industrialisation of Africa and close the development deficit.
The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources – Gwede Mantashe said that there is no other point in time that will be opportune for Africa to take control of its development, while still pursuing the strategic partnerships with the rest of the world.
“We, therefore, urge African leaders and investors across the continent to also promote the benefication of minerals,” said Mantashe.
Investing in African Mining Indaba conference has become a pivotal event for mining professionals since its inception in 1994, also involving investors and industry leaders, seeking to capitalise on the vast opportunities in mining sector of Africa.

Eventually, the exhibition continues to grow in size and influence all by remaining a crucial platform for shaping the future of mining on the African continent.
