South Africa: Tourism sector showcased itself with Wesgro at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 event. As tourism isn’t just a sector, it is one of the most direct pathways they have, which focuses on jobs, income and opportunity across the Western Cape.
Every market they unlock, every flight-route they secure, every media relationship they build, it converts into arrivals and arrivals convert into livelihoods. Over the past two days at the event, Wesgro along with the Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism – Dr. Ivan Meyer has been focusing exactly on that, by:
- Showcasing the international tourism campaign to the Indian Travel trade, as one of the strategic scale markets.
- Engaging Brazilian media ahead of the Cape Town – São Paulo direct flight launching in July, opening Latin America’s potential for the province.
- Strengthening relationships with Chinese media and trade partners in a market that continues to grow in significance.
- Advancing air access discussions with Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Norse FlySAFair & SAA.
- Cruise Tourism discussions with South African Tourism, Namibia Tourism Board, Angola Tourism and St. Helena Tourism on closer collaboration to create the cruise Southern Africa value proposition for international cruise liner companies.
- Amplifying the regional partners with activations from the Weskus & Oppikaai and the Overberg & Creation Wines.
Tourism is all about market access, demand generation and real economic conversion with arrivals number count. As they deepen these local and global partnerships, they stay focused on what matters the most by turning demand into jobs and growth into shared opportunity across the province.
Considering his visit to Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos stated that, “I’m excited to be in Durban at the opening of the Western Cape Pavilion at Africa’s Travel Indaba.”
Vos added that this pavilion is more than just a beautiful showcase, it is a platform to market our destination to the world, strengthen partnerships, grow demand for our tourism products and experiences, and drive more forward bookings back home.
Over the next few days, they will be engaging with trade partners, airlines, media and tourism operators as they roll out exciting domestic and international campaigns which aims at growing the visitor economy, supporting local businesses and creating more jobs. Cape Town and the Western Cape are ready to welcome the world.
