South African Police Service members of the Provincial Counterfeit and illicit goods Task Team led an integrated operation in Strand on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The purpose of the operation was clearly identified to attend the extortion related to the incidents which are considered high priority for the SAPS, in the Western Cape.
Reportedly, by virtue of the meticulous investigation, which was conducted by the seasoned detectives, eight suspects were detained for questioning on a charge of extortion.
Meanwhile, the SAPS police members who were attached to Public Order Police, responded to the received information, which pertains to a person in possession of a firearm, on the same day i.e. Sunday, July 21, 2024.
As per the sources, the patrol vehicle entered the Qumbu Road, the members saw a man who fitted the actual description. Upon searching the man, the cops confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition, which was found in his possession.
The police officers arrested a man aged 35, considering the charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once they charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg, Strand and Athlone Magistrates Courts on the mentioned charges.
Furthermore, in another case, to deal decisively with the increasing crimes of extortion and the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, the police members in the Western Cape detained ten suspects in an isolated case for serious and violent crimes.
Notably, the Wynberg police conducted a stop and search operation in their precinct on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Whenever, they saw a suspicious male roaming the area.
However, when they approached the man, he fled with the police members in pursuit. They apprehended the man in Broad Road, and searched him and in the process, they confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and detained the adult man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
