Zambia Army joined the rest of the country in commemorating the 2025 International Women’s Day.
The President of the country and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Hakainde Hichilema participated in the national commemoration in Kasama, Northern Province. During his attendance, ge reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting women. He pledged to give them a chance to participate in various governmental activities.
President Hichilema said addressing gender inequality is a priority for the government.
“Our focus is on implementing measures that will promote gender equality. We want our women to change the narrative and to remind each other about specific issues to achieve gender equality,” he said.
President Hichilema also asked husbands to stop Gender Based Violence (GBV) in homes and to show love to their spouses.
The theme for this year is, “For all women and girls: rights. equality. empowerment.” The theme represents issues that need to be implemented in all communities.
In Lusaka, The Zambian Vice President, Mutale Nalumango says the 2025 Women’s Day theme highlights Zambia’s dedication to ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind on national development agenda.
Nalumango added that theme also highlights the immernse resilience, invaluable contribution and unstoppable potential women across all sectors have showcased while acknowledging the systematic barriers that must be addressed in the pursuit of true gender equality.
Zambia Army officers and personnel joined hundreds of people at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu stadium. The community was proud to come together to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event was graced by Minister of Justice, Princess Kasune who praised women in uniform for their continued hard work as they defend the country.
In Ndola on the Copperbelt province, female Officers and Soldiers joined the rest of the country in the commemoration of International Women’s Day which was held at the Civic.
Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Paul Kabuswe also attended the event, where he applauded the women for their important role in the society.
In Mufulira, female Officers and Soldiers led by Battalion Commander, Lt Col D Tembo joined the rest of the district in commemorating their day.
Acting District Commissioner, Zakiel Kamanga stated the women’s rights encompass a broad range of issues, including reproductive rights, access to healthcare and ability to make decisions.
This year’s international women’s day has been commemorated under the theme: “ All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality.Empowerment.”
