Children across Zambia converged in Lusaka to celebrate their Big Day, i.e., World Children’s Day 2023. The Day willl be celebrated under the theme, “Renewing Our Promise For Children’s Rights” on Monday, November 20, 2023.
Yesterday, a preparatory workshop was organised with students to urge them to develop their interests and contribute their efforts to society.
The Preparatory Workshop has been attended by several delegations and community Children from Lusaka. They attendies, and children had the opportunity to get insights into the workshop. They also had a chance to engage in several discussions on societal issues.
The children had an orientation on wide-ranging topics such as their rights, safeguarding, participation, and progress made in promoting their welfare, among other topical issues.
During the preparatory workshop yesterday, the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Director for Child Beatrice Muyambango, urged the children to do their best to protect, promote and safeguard their interests.
She said Zambia, as a country, is proud and highly values the input of children in the country’s socio-economic development.
Muyambango has also thanked all coporating partners for their tireless efforts preparing for this year’s celebrations. She said that the government remains committed to improving the welfare of children in all aspects.
Minister of Community and Social Services Doreen Mwamba is tomorrow expected to officiate at a children’s conference to address them ahead of the official commemoration slated for Namibia. Republican President Hakainde Hichilema is also expected to join other regional leaders in the commemorations.
The day was celebrated in collaboration with an international organisation called UNICEF Zambia. The Event has just wrapped up the 1st Day of World Children’s Day preparatory activities with children from different provinces in the country ahead of World Children’s Day.
