Zambia: The Zambia Under-20 conclude their West African tour with a worthwhile test against the WAFU A champions Senegal at the Lat Dior Stadium in Thies.
Both teams are using the friendly as part of preparations for the Total Energies Egypt 2023 U20 AFCON, which kicks off on February 19.
Coach Chisi Mbewe’s side warmed up their tour against WAFU B champions Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Friday, where they lost 4-2 in an entertaining encounter that wowed neutrals.
Today the junior Chipolopolo will be looking to wind their tour with a strong signal against the baby cubs in their own lair.
The race for the number one spot is among Jeban Tembo, Levison Banda and Erick Makungu, while at the back, options abound with the likes of Happy Nsiku, Gift Mphande, Mathews Banda, Amon Chulu, Luckson Tembo, Lombe Mutale and Onesmas Chipango.
In the engine room, skipper Dominic Kanda may be joined by the industrious Charles Majapa or the likes of Ian Sindaye and Julius Kumwenda.
The enterprising Songa Chipyoka, Joseph ‘Sabobo’ Banda, Lasmond Phiri and Moses Mulemga could be the possible creative options.
Upfront the technical bench may look to the two-goal hero in the Abuja assignment, Derrick Bulaya or the imposing Kingston Mutandwa to lead the attack, while Rickson Ng’ambi, Henry Mbuti and Emmanuel Mukosha will have a say in the possible options.
The Malick Daff drilled baby cubs will be looking to sustain the winning season for Senegalese football that has seen them sweep all national team crowns at CAF senior level.
However, Daff will be without WAFU, A Player of the Tournament and top scorer Samba Diallo, who is on the books of Dynamo Kiev.
Daff will be banking on the local guns comprising the likes of Mamadou Lamine Toure, Mamadou Ndiaye and Latyr Camara. In goal, the battle will draw Aflred Oukala (US Goree), Cheikh Gueye (Generation Foot) and Alione Badara (Diambars FC) against each other.
Zambia will head to Egypt for an international camp preceding the commencement of the AFCON as part of helping the team acclimatize.
Kickoff for today’s (Tuesday) match is at 18:30 hours (CAT). NOTE: The broadcast of the match has not yet been confirmed by the hosts. We will advise in due course.
