Zambia: The Mayor of Livingstone, Her Worship Constance Nalishebo Muleabai, has called for concerted efforts in the fight against cancer and diabetes.
Her Worship, Muleabai, was speaking when she flagged off the Red Arrows and Livingstone Cycling Clubs in a three day cycling cancer and diabetes awareness ride from Livingstone to Lusaka.
Muleabai said it was only through concerted efforts that the cases of cancer and diabetes could be reduced. She also appealed for the adoption of healthy lifestyles to combat diseases.
“The fight against cancer and diabetes requires our concerted efforts if we are to save lives. We all have a part to play, as has been clearly demonstrated by the Red Arrows and Living Cycling Clubs. We can do our part by adopting healthy lifestyles that reduce the risk of cancer and diabetes,” said the Mayor.
Muleabai said awareness saves lives, reduces the disease burden on the health system and leads to a healthy population necessary to drive the economy.
Her Worship The Mayor also took time to acknowledge Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Livingstone as an important partner to the City of Livingstone. He said ZAF Livingstone continued to provide the city with fire and rescue services, chaplaincy services, the brass band and marchers for all national events and healthcare services at the Station Sick Quarters.
Meanwhile, Station Commander ZAF Livingstone, Col Like Like, said the cancer and diabetes awareness ride from Livingstone to Lusaka was a noble cause.
Col Like applauded the Livingstone Cycling Club for joining the Red Arrows Cycling Club on the awareness ride and said he looked forward to other cycling clubs participating in future events.
“The cycling event is in its second year and held in honour of the Late Maj Gen Kapotwe Chintu, Former Deputy Air Force Commander who passed away of cancer in 2019,” Col Like explained.
The cyclists are expected to arrive in Lusaka on 18 August 2023 after a night stop in Choma and Mazabuka, where they will distribute flyers and conduct cancer and diabetes for awareness activities.
