Zambia: Malawi and Zambia have had a close history for a long time. The two countries share common values, history, language, culture, and a border. They were one country, along with Zimbabwe, under the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Malawi has a large Zambian diaspora, and Zambia has a large Malawian diaspora.
Zambia Defence Force personnel graduate from the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College.
It is not surprising that Malawi and Zambia enjoy warm bilateral relations and military cooperation. The military cooperation between the Malawi Defence Force and Zambia Defence Force has led to exchange programmes in the area of training.
Recently, personnel from the Zambia Defence Force graduated from the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College, where they successfully completed their Junior Command and Staff Course.
The three Officers, Major Brian Kamwi from the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), Captain Mahlon Chola Nsofwa from the Zambia Army and Captain Gershom Mumba from the Zambia National Service (ZNS) completed the 23-week course in Malawi along with thirty (30) other Officers from Eight (08) countries.
The course was aimed at developing the staff, teaching command and leadership skills, providing a broad understanding and knowledge of single and combined arms as well as preparing the Officers for Senior Command and Staff Course.
In the past, the Zambia Air Force trained Officer cadets and student pilots from Malawi, and currently, student pilots from Malawi are in training at the ZAF Flying Training School (FTS).
Students from the Malawi Defence Force have also trained with Officers at our Defence Services Command and Staff College. The Malawi Defence Force has also trained Zambia Air Force personnel in paratrooper.
