Zambia set to defend COSAFA Cup Title at South Africa

The coach of the COSAFA team for Zambia, Chisi Mbewe, is confident that his team will successfully defend the COSAFA Cup title this year. The team sis the reigning champion of the COSAFA Cup and have been winning the tournament for two years straight.

The team has been performing extremely well in the various tournaments they have played in. Further, the team’s performance in the previous edition of the COSAFA Cup make the team’s coach confident in their success.

The team has departed from Zambia to South Africa for the championship. Before the team left, Coach Mbewe said he hopes to lead Zambia to a strong potential third straight cup title.

He claimed that one of the most important prerequisite to this victory would be maintaining a disciplined and united team throughout the tournament.

Mbewe was appointed to lead Zambia national team at this year’s Hollywood bets COSAFA Cup tournament recently. He spoke to the media about the chances of the team’s success. He said, there will be stiff competition from group B with Zimbabwe who will try to beat Zambia.

However, he was sure that his side would be able to manage to give the other team a tough contest.

He said he will give chances to players that have not participated in the tournament before to also showcase their talent.

Further, two times COSAFA winner Albert Kangwanda, who is the captain of the side said he aims to score more goals this time compared to last year’s tournament where he scored 3 goals.

Kangwanda said the team will also aim to win the first game which will serve as motivation to push through the group stages.

Meanwhile, Midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu, said the tournament will not be easy, going there as defending champions but through team spirit and concentration they will be able to triumph over any team.

Zambia will play their group B opener against Kenya tomorrow before facing Zimbabwe three days later and wind up with a game against Comoros Island on 2nd July.

The tournament will run from 26th June to 7th July 2024.
