The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) has lauded the young members of the community for their resilience, innovation, and passion. The appreciation came to the youngsters of Zambia who are living with one or more disabilities.
The people living with disability have been known to face significant issues in leading a normal and independent life. One of the major reasons for this is lack of inclusive infrastructure.
However, the people of the country who are living with disabilities, have been using innovation and willpower to make good on the situation.
On March 12, the nation will be celebrating Youth day. Ahead of the celebrations, ZAPD Executive Director, Frankson Musukwa, spoke in favor of youths living with disabilities.
He has claimed that these youngsters inspire everyone and should be celebrated and acknowledged for their resilience.
Musukwa has assured the youths of the Government’s commitment to supporting as well as empowering them. The adminstration of Zambia wants to enable them reach their full potential.
He indicated that the Agency believes in the abilities of the youths with disabilities and will ensure inclusivity, noting that access to the environment prepares them well to thrive.
“We believe in their abilities and are dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible environment that allows them to thrive as leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Musukwa reminded the youths with disabilities that their contributions are significant as they are representatives of the disability community as well as change makers in the society.
“As you celebrate Youth Day, remember that you are not just representatives of the disability community, but also leaders, innovators and change-makers. Your voices matter, and your contributions are invaluable,” he said.
He urged young people with disabilities to amplify their voices and contribute to national development through economic empowerment.
“So, let us celebrate your strengths, your talents and your achievements. Amplify your voices and create opportunities that contribute to national development through robust economic empowerment driven by a government that cares for your future development needs.
“Tomorrow, 12th March as the country celebrates Youth Day, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate youths with disabilities for their resilience, determination, innovation and passion as they are an inspiration to us all,” he said.
