Zimbabwe: Athlete Fortunate Chidzivo won the Peninsula Half Marathon that was held on Sunday, Feb 18, 2024 in the Western Cape. The Zimbabwean pacer took the top spot and the prize money of 6000 Rands.
Chidzivo completed the remarkable marathon in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 19 seconds. She secured her victory in the category of women’s 21.1km race, to the location Simon’s Town Naval Base.
Peninsula Half Marathon is one of the oldest and most scenic marathons in the Western Cape. The Peninsula Marathon takes in the length of the Cape Peninsula, that began at the Green Point and ends at the historic Simon’s Town Naval Sports Ground.
The marathon route is fast and flat and takes in the glorious sunrise and roughly the 15km of running along the stunning False Bay coastline, towards the finish line.
Moreover, the event is an Abbott age group World Ranking qualifier of route 21.1km that began at Bergvliet and heads to the same finishing line in Simon’s Town.
To participate in the Marathon, entry fees were also charged. For the licensed runners R360 will be charged for the 42.2km marathon. For unlicensed runners, R445 will be charged and an extra R85 will be charged for a temporary license.
For the route 21.1km, R230 will be charged from licensed runners and R305 from unlicensed runners. An extra R75 will be charged for temporary licenses from unlicensed runners.
Athlete Fortunate Chidzivo is a Zimbabwean long-distance runner. She competed in the women’s marathon at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics.
She also represented Zimbabwe in the year 2019, at the African Games, which was held in Rabat, Morocco.
Chidzivo competed in the women’s half marathon and she finished it and secured 6th place in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 47 seconds.
In 2020, she participated in the women’s half marathon at the 2020 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships that was held in Gdynia, Poland, where Fortunate Chidzivo improved her national record.
