Zambia: The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander's Netball Tournament, which attracted 47 teams, successfully closed on Sunday, 8 October 2023.

Zambia: The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander’s Netball Tournament, which attracted 47 teams, successfully closed on Sunday, 8 October 2023.

The 47 teams that participated in the tournament competed in 5 categories: Premier, Community, ZAF, Men’s and Corporate.

The Premier category attracted various professional teams under the Midlands Netball Association (MINA) of Zambia. Green Buffaloes emerged winners of this category, while Prison Leopards took the second position and NAPSA trailed behind in the third position.

The ZAF category event sponsors had teams from all Lusaka-based Formations, Kabwe, ZAF Samora Machel in Mbala, Livingstone, Ndola and the Northern Provincial Air Defence Command (PADC).

With splendour and might, the Defending Champions, ZAF Twin Palm, maintained the category’s first position. This was after beating ZAF Livingstone in the finals as the ZAF Headquarters team marked the third position.

Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes came first in the Men’s category, followed by Nkwazi and Zambia National Service (ZNS) Makeni in third place. The Community category was scooped by Chawama B as Golden Angels came out second.

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) sponsored team aced the corporate category after heavily taxing the ZAF Northern PADC team on the court. All teams that championed the categories walked away with trophies, medals and monetary prizes of K3,000 for first position, K2,000 for second position, K1,500 for third and K500 for each category’s player of the tournament.

Speaking during the official closing ceremony of the Tournament, Commandant Ibex Aviation Town (IAT), Brig Gen Pasmore Pasi, commended the participants for their exemplary performance.

Brig Gen Pasi was confident that the virtues attained through the tournament would apply to all aspects of the participants’ lives beyond the netball court.

He thanked the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) management for hosting the event. Brig Gen Pasi also extended gratitude to the Zambia Revenue Authority and Manzi Valley for being part of the tournament sponsors.

The Netball Association of Zambia President, Martha Lungu Sichone, Vice Heads of Department from ZAF Headquarters, ZAF Formation Commanders and officials from MINA witnessed the closing ceremony.
