Cape Town: Community, Arts and Culture Development Department of the City of Cape Town hosted two career expos this week in Sarepta and Kraaifontein which was attended by more than 600 learners. Their aim was to create awareness related to the careers and opportunities available to learners.
Reportedly, the career day in Sarepta was aimed at young people with disabilities. The learners from the following schools attended: Axios School of Skills, Khayelitsha Special School, Jan Kriel School and Bet-El School of Skills.
The expo was attended by the learners in Kraaifontein from the high schools such as Kraaifontein, Scottsdene, Northpine Technical and Bernadino Heights.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that the career expos provide the information about professions to learners that may not have considered it previously.
According to Patricia, it is an expo that can cement a chosen path or open up the world to a previously unknown vocation. The learners were able to see what certain jobs entail and have find out more about the educational institutions by supporting services and employment opportunities.
Councillor Ross expressed that they were able to network and explore the industries. The Sarepta event is especially heartening as there are career opportunities for those who are differently abled.

The main purpose of the Community, Arts and Culture Development Department is to build and grow the city by transforming its people through actionable priorities that are outlined in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
It is that department which accomplishes by delivering developmental programmes to vulnerable and impoverished communities across the city, in order to enhance the resilience and improve the well-being of the citizens.
Arts and Culture occupies an important role in the City of Cape Town as they strive towards building an inclusive city that embraces cultural diversity and creative industries. The department creates an enabling environment for the development and promotion of arts, culture, heritage and creativity in Cape Town.
