South Africa: Tuesday, November 22 2022, marked the culmination of the completion of 100 days in the office of MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba since he got appointed to these two critical built environment and infrastructure development portfolios on August 11, of this year.
To record this significant historical milestone, MEC Mahlaba, together with Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Sikhumbuzo “Zero” Mqadi, jointly officiated at the handover of the R64 million 500-units KwaNzimakwe Rural Housing Project Phase One and simultaneously launched Phase 2 of the same project which will see the construction of the first tranche of 300-units of the remaining 500 also at the cost of more than R65 million rural housing project. The event was also graced by the presence of Local iNkosi Nzimakwe.
In addition, the MEC also visited the homestead of centenarian 105-year-old Gogo Mzize as well as a local nursery school where he donated a cake marking 100 days in office.
Thereafter the MEC and Mayor Mqadi conducted an inspection in-loco at Masinenge Informal Settlement Upgrade Housing Project outside Margate to check on the progress of the construction of the housing units.
Later on, during the evening MEC Mahlaba hosted a get-together with senior officials of both Departments of Human Settlements and Public Works at a secluded venue in Durban North to reflect on the strides made thus far during his 100 days in office.
He also thanked staff members of both Departments under the respective stewardship of the Human Settlements Head of Department, Mr Mdu Zungu and Public Works Acting HOD Siboniso Majola for the sterling support they have given him since he assumed political leadership of the two Departments.
He exhorted the gathered officials to continue to place service delivery and serve the people of KwaZulu-Natal with diligence and dedication as they have been doing and pledged his support in whatever service delivery endeavours they were involved in.
