Cape Town: The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department gives a reminder to the public of its upcoming operations for the rest of the summer.
Visiting the City Swimming Pools, Beaches, Parks, or Public Open Spaces is very common during the festive season as tourists and locals both enjoy spending their recreational time at places like these.
As per the sources, the department will work to ensure that the facilities are safe and offer an enjoyable experience for all visitors. Lifeguards will remain on beaches and at pools to ensure the safety of the visitors.
Notably, the community swimming pools will remain open daily from Monday to Sunday between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until the end of Feb 2024. The community swimming pools allow the residents and visitors ample opportunity to enjoy the summer season.
Also, from Mar 01 to Mar 20, the community pools will see transition only in the weekend operations. The transitions will be made after the Easter weekend, from Mar 29, 2024, to Apr 01, 2024, while the facilities will be closed for the off-season.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross, said that the officials had waved goodbye to the festive season, but summer is still in full swing.
“We are expecting very high temperatures over the coming days, and so we invite the public to make the most of our facilities as they seek relief from the heat,” added the Councillor.
The Councillor for Community Services and Health has asked to practice caution at all times and wrote, “However, please exercise caution at all times, for your safety and that of others. The city remains dedicated to providing recreational facilities and services to the community.”
Councillor Ross also mentioned that they all have a shared responsibility to work together towards a safer environment at the facilities.
Meanwhile, beachgoers are encouraged to adhere and to follow proper beach regulations and observe the four golden rules for safe summers:
- The visitors must swim between the designated red and yellow flags, where lifeguards will always be on duty.
- The visitors must be aware of rip currents.
- The visitors are asked to keep a watchful eye on their children.
- Be cautious and do not swim under the influence of alcohol.
