South Africa: The officials of the Reaction Unit have received the reports of a murder-suicide on Saunders Circle in Belvedere – KZN. According to the officials, A ten (10) year old child witnessed the traumatizing incident.
The witness saw that her mother was shot in the head by her father, which was immediately followed by the father committing suicide. The incident happened in the afternoon hours of Wednesday. The members of the community contacted the reaction officers for help.
As per the Tongaat Operations Centre, they received calls from several members of the general public. A team of officers was dispatched from the Operations Centre and arrived on scene at approximately 17:58.
On arrival, the reaction officers realized that the paramedics from a Private Ambulance Service were already on the scene. They were providing emergency medical care to the male who sustained a gunshot to his head.
Further, the officials have shared that they saw the body of the female victim on the driveway of the home. The woman also sustained a gunshot wound to her head and showed no signs of life on examination.
The officials pronounced the victim deceased at the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, they talked to the people in the neighbourhood to get accurate details and background.
According to the neighbours, the man and woman are married but separated. The man was currently employed as an Armed Response Officer (ARO) for a national company.
The male arrived at the home where the murder-suicide happened, dressed in uniform. He was driving his branded company vehicle to fetch the child when an argument ensued.
During the argument, the husband took out his company-issued firearm and shot his wife. Afterwards, he turned the weapon on himself. The investigating officers recovered four spent 9mm cartridges at the scene of the crime.
The man was critically injured after the incident. He was stabilized on scene before being sent to the hospital in a serious condition. A recent update from the Reaction Officers suggests that the man was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the child who saw the whole incident was visibly traumatized but was not injured.
