Kenya: Kenya-based insurance company Madison Insurance has pledged to assist the country in their large-scale tree planting initiative. The Kenya Forest Service, which is a major stakeholder in the initiative, is working hard to get more and more organizations involved.
The Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests (DCCF) for Dryland and Private Forest Development Coordination Dr Clement Ngóriareng’ hosted a meeting with a delegation from Madison Insurance. The two organization discussed several ways in which they can work together for the tree planting initiative.
The delegation of Madison Insurance was led by the General Manager Joseph Gathogo. The officials have shared some glimpses from the interaction which was hosted on Tuesday. The two organizations had fruitful discussions regarding the tree-planting initiative.
In December 2022, the President of Kenya, William Ruto announced his vision to cover 30% of the country’s landmass with trees. The deadline for the vision was announced to be in 2032 in a decade. The vision of the president has received support from several stakeholders of the country.
One of the biggest pushes for the initiative came when the First Lady of Kenya, Rachel Ruto, pledged to plant 500 Million Trees in the country. Madison Insurance has also collaborated with the Kenya Forest Services to make the vision a success.
The president of the country wanted to plant 15 Billion trees in the country. The vision will help in making sure that the country is playing its part in the climate action.
During the meeting, the two officers agreed to formulate a collaboration framework. The framework will guide their engagement through the Adopt a Forest initiative.
According to the Kenya Forest Service, the initiative, several organizations across the country have joined the vision. These institutions are working towards fighting the negative effects of climate change by rehabilitating degraded forests.
Dr. Ng’oriareng’ thanked Madison Insurance for their collaboration. The Kenya-based insurance has also extended a helping hand to support the KFS football team.
Other officers present during the meeting were Rosslyn Wasike and James Maina from Madison as well as Patrick Tialal, Joshua Kitutu, Maimuna Mohammed and Sheilah Kenduiywa from KFS.
