South Africa: A 25-year-old man hailing from Madrona Drive in Trenance Park – KZN has sustained minor injuries during an attempted hijack in the region. The suspects threatened the 25 year old with firearm and demanded that he hands them the key to his Renault Kwid.
The suspect were in a group of seven individuals. Four of these suspects had weapons with which they threatened the victim. At this point, the 25 year old threw his key in the bushes without being noticed by the suspects.
Further, he informed the suspects that the driver had fled the scene after he noticed the group approaching him. At this point, the suspects pistol whipped the man and asked him to lay down o the ground.
They fired multiple shots at the driver’s window and damaged the car exterior in the hijacking attempt. The robbers then stole the cell phone of the driver, which was in the car before they fled on foot.
The victim was in the area to get water in Madrona Drive in preparation of the loadshedding in the area. After the suspects left on foot, the victim reached out to the Reaction Unit South Africa for assistance.
According to the Reaction Unit, they dispatched a team of officers after they received the call for assistance. They met the victim who informed them about the incident claiming that he had sustained injuries during the firing.
The Reaction Unit South Africa announced that they have started extensive search for the suspects. However, they have not yet made any arrests in this matter.
The community is experiencing water shortages, which forces many members of the community to travel to different areas of the community. The people of the province shared that the water shortages and shedding has led to many people losing their lives.
The authorities have shared that the number of hijacking incidents has also been a cause of concern for the people. The suspects end up seriously injuring or killing the victim in an attempt to steal or hijack the vehicles.
Accordingly, the people believe that the province has become highly unsafe for the people.
