Botswana: Vice President Slumber Tsogwane officiates at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 28 new police stations and staff housing in Gaborone. The event was hosted on Monday, with thee members of the Botswana Police Service in attendance.
The officials of the Botswana Police Force were also present at the event and featured a large chunk of The initiative aims to enhance police infrastructure and improve living conditions for law enforcement personnel. According to the authorities, this will mark a significant step in bolstering public safety and support services in the region.
The main ceremony was held in Gaborone under the Theme: Fostering Safer Communities Through Enhanced Police Accessibility. The police stations will be built in 27 villages across the country. The groundbreaking on all the police station sites was hosted at the same time.
The Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane, officiated at the event in Gaborone. The event was then which was replicated throughout the 27 villages.
While officiating Vice President said that the development was a historic milestone for BPS and the country at large. He noted that the development will increase the number of police stations to One Hundred and Eleven.
He highlighted that this was a clear indication of the government’s commitment to resourcing BPS for provision of public security, peace and stability in pursuit of justice for all. Later in his address, the Vice President, condemned the incidents of murder which have been reported to the BPS.
He said called on the men to not engage in such acts and play their role as protectors of their families.
The Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi was also present at the groundbreaking. He welcomed all the guests who had graced the groundbreaking ceremony.
He highlighted that the Project was more than an infrastructural development, symbolising the Ministry’s commitment to empower BPS for extension of its services in coverage of a wider population.
The Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe provided the synopsis of the project during the event. She appreciated BPS partnerships as bearing pillars that enabled the organisation to effectively deliver on its mandate. She also added that the construction of the 28 Police Stations came at a time when the organisation is overwhelmed with the need to bringing services closer to the communities.
Kgosi Lotlamoreng II of Barolong thanked the organization for their actions. Further, they urged Dikgosi to continue their cooperation with BPS for the redemption of the peace and stability that previously defined Botswana.
The construction of the 28 Police Stations will be delivered through a Turnkeuy Approach. The approach has been approved under the 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 (𝐓𝐍𝐃𝐏).
The initiative was expected to complete under a budget of 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐒𝐢𝐱 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 & 𝐒𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐲-𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐥𝐚.
