Cape Town Air Access (CTAA) congratulated FlySafair on the launch of the inaugural flight between Cape Town and Windhoek. The flight services were launched last Tuesday.

Reportedly, it was announced in September earlier that the new service will be operated twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The flights added the capacity to one of the top source markets for Cape Town and the Western Cape.

Cape Town Air Access is powered by Wesgro, which is the official tourism and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, marketing the destination worldwide.

As per the sources, Namibia holds a vital position in Cape Town and the Western Cape’s Air Travel Market, that has been ranked as the fifth largest passenger market overall.

Previously, in 2023, more than 120,000 two-way passengers travelled between Cape Town and Namibia. Their travel journey marked a 16% year-on-year growth which highlighted the significance of the route.

The improved connectivity between Cape Town and Windhoek will not only strengthen the ties between the two regions but will also boost the tourism and trade by creating opportunities for economic growth.

Through an innovative model, CTAA has also partnered with selected private sector companies with an objective to broaden and enhance the project’s scope by assisting with destination marketing and promotional activities.

Notably, the current partners are Investec Private Bank, DHL Global Forwarding and the V&A Waterfront.

Since its establishment in the year 2015, Cape Town Air Access has been widely recognized as a progressive and collaborative effort across all three spheres of government and the private sector.

Moreover, the project is broadened to Western Cape Air Access for targeted International Markets. This further improved the economic competitiveness through focused demand stimulation and with alignment of infrastructure and services.

The strength of the project lies within its partnership, as it was created among the six government entities that form the Cape Town Air Access steering committee. The associated partners are Wesgro, the Western Cape Government, City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism, South African Tourism and Airports Company South Africa, along with the private sector partners that provides funding towards the project, and also offer an advisory role, guiding upon the initiative directions.
