Cape Town: The Haven Night Shelter has introduced ‘Dignity Project’, last week to help and support the homeless people, during this festive season. The initiative was launched for a great cause and began was implemented on Tuesday, Dec 17, 2024 and will run till Friday, Jan 03, 2025.
CEO of The Haven Night Shelter – Shaddie Valayadum said that the programme aims to provide basic needful services to homeless individuals found in Cape Town. The programme is being observed at The Haven’s head office at 2 Napier Street in Green Point.
Valayadum mentioned that the programme is designed to provide hot showers, nutritious meals, laundry services and dignity packs. It will also provide haircuts as well as shaving services and access to phones for connecting with their loved ones.

Moreover, social work support will be available to assist with creating CVs and connecting individuals to social resources, too.
Considering this, CEO of the Shelter – Valayadum said that the programme is being supported completely by several sponsors and partners in and across the Cape Town.
A non-profit organisation – Viva con Agua is also among the contributors. The organisation provides mobile sanitation facilities to the homeless in Cape Town. They are giving mobile showers and toilets along with a leading fibre network operator in the regions of Western Cape and is making their part in dignity packs and sandwiches.
South African bread supplier are also in the list of contributors which will supply daily bread and a retail bank in South Africa, which will sponsor dignity packs and a laundry group offering daily laundry services.

Another supporter in the Dignity Project is The Central City Improvement District (CCID) that will provide security via patrols. While Long beach Mall will continue to donate proceeds from its recently launched cookbook sales.
The Feed the Nation Foundation which is a non-profit organisation, provides food assistance to the most vulnerable in South Africa and will also contribute groceries to support meal preparation.
CEO Shaddie Valayadum added further to his statement that The Haven Night Shelter is calling on local businesses, organisations and individuals to support the initiative by making contribution through funds, resources or time.

He explained that the initiative is more than just a seasonal effort. The Dignity Project is a demonstration of community care and collaboration.
Notably, by providing basic necessities, the programme seeks to uplift and empower individuals. It reminds them of their inherent worth and place in society. The purpose of the programme is to restore basic hygiene, dignity and a sense of belonging for homeless individuals in Cape Town.
The Haven Night Shelter was established back in 1978 in Cape Town, South Africa. The Welfare Organisation provided temporary shelter, physical care, social welfare and family with re-unification services to adult homeless persons in the Western Cape.
