Dominica: The government of Dominica has signed the contract for the construction of the Kalinago Territory Multipurpose Center and Emergency Shelter. The organization has signed an EC$7.6 million contract with local firms OYO Construction Inc. and Virtuoso Architects Ltd.
The companies will be working in a joint venture with the government of Dominica. The officials have shared that the administration is dedicated to honoring the roots of the nation.
The construction of the facility is being implemented under the project, Building Resilience and Adaptive Capacity to Climate Change and Disaster Risk in the Kalinago Territory. The attendants have shared that the members of the administration have been working for the development of the Kalinago Territory.
The plan also includes the Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation Plan along with the Inclusive Public Awareness. The officials have shared that the organization wants to impart Education Campaign on Disaster Risk and Climate Adaptation for the Kalinago Territory.
The government of Canada has also extended their support to the Kalinago Territory development project. The funding was done through the Community Disaster Risk Reduction Fund implemented by the Caribbean Development Bank.
The government of Canada has pledged EC$5.5 million in grant funding meanwhile, Dominica will be available for the funding of EC$3.0 million.
The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit shared that the construction of the project is a proof of the government’s commitment to the development of the Kalinago Territory. The people of one of the oldest tribes in the nation are receiving this facility as a perfect beginning of the new year.
The Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit said that he was proud that the government has taken this initiative to develop the indigenous people. The facility will make sure that the resilience of the people remains intact.
The Prime Minister has shared that the project will also help in improving the quality of architecture and beauty of the area.
The facilities at the project include:
Dormitory space for 125 beds, kitchen, dining area, bathrooms, food and material storage spaces. The other amenities include a general offices, emergency operations office, a first aid center, library, and computer room
The building will have a 15,000-gallon water storage capacity will ensure the building’s self-sufficiency during emergencies
