Cape Town: The Safety and Security Information Management Service (SSIMS) apprehended three on Sunday afternoon. It was the result of information gathered by the officers.
Reportedly, one case out of them was linked to the events happened on Friday, Sept 12, 2025 where the Law Enforcement officers were attacked following a collision in the area.
In relation to this case, eleven people have appeared before the judge in the court on Monday, Sept 15, 2025.
Also, a LEAP vehicle hit three people after the driver lost control while pursuing an armed suspect who pointed a firearm at the vehicle. Initially the suspects were arrested, and stolen items were recovered from the Law Enforcement vehicle during the ensuing melee.
SSIMS received more information on Sunday, Sept 14, 2025 that one of the cell-phones stolen in the attack was sold at a known drug house in Kalkstenfontein.
Furthermore, SAPS arrested a suspect for the possession of mandrax, considering the raid made on the house in a joint operation with SAPS and the City agencies. This also confirmed the possession of the phone as it was sold by the brother of the suspect.
The SSIMS team received additional information of two armed men with suspected gang links, walking in the street where Friday’s events took place. They responded, and when the suspects saw the officers, they fled into a nearby house, but were quickly apprehended.
The suspects, aged 22 and 29 were both found in possession of firearms and ammunition. It later emerged that the firearms had been reported stolen in Soweto and Kraaifontein respectively.
Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the events in Valhalla Park over the weekend must be condemned in the strongest terms, and the City will oppose bail for those arrested in connection with the attack on our officers.
Smith said that the collision was an accident, and the Law Enforcement Department has reached out to the individuals who were injured. The response of bystanders after the accident can never be justified.
He wanted to thank those who have come forward with information that led to the arrests and recovery of City assets, but also the arrest on Sunday of two brazen gunmen who were picked up before they reached their intended targets. Positive collaboration with communities is the only way to get rid of the streets and communities of criminals.
