Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the affected communities within the Kalinago Territory to assess damages due to sever weather condition and engage directly with residents. Significant progress has been made in restoring access and carrying out clean-up operations across affected hamlets.
The Government, through the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment has continued to strengthen coordinated recovery and relief efforts across the Salybia Constituency following the severe weather event of April 26, 2026.
The Ministry has maintained active collaboration with national agencies, humanitarian organisations, local authorities and community stakeholders to assist affected residents and restore normalcy within impacted communities. Current recovery operations remain focused on restoring access, conducting assessments, supporting vulnerable households and enhancing resilience ahead of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

Minister for Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment and Parliamentary Representative for the Salybia Constituency – Cozier Frederick, remains actively engaged in field coordination and response activities alongside government agencies and development partners.
The Ministry of Public Works, private heavy equipment operators, the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division and National Employment Programme (NEP) crews have supported debris removal, road reopening, culvert inspections and hazard mitigation efforts. Joint assessments were conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Public Works, NEP and local operators, who identified 18 culverts requiring immediate intervention.

The Forestry Division of Dominica deployed chainsaw operators and field teams to clear fallen trees, restore local access routes and assist with slope and environmental assessments in collaboration with the Office of Disaster Management. NEP teams from Salybia, Delices, LaPlaine, Marigot, Riviere Cyrique, Grand Fond and Belles also assisted with community clean-up activities.
Humanitarian assistance has expanded throughout the constituency, with approx. 1,041 households receiving food hampers through the Government’s Rapid Response Programme. Priority support continues for elderly residents, households with children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Psychosocial support initiatives have also commenced through the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, including counseling services and the “Return to Happiness Programme” at Atkinson, Salybia and Sineku Primary Schools to support children affected by the disaster through play therapy, art and music activities.
