Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) booked a place in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s National League final for the second consecutive season. As the team defeated Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) with 3-1 in a high-quality semi-final at Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday.
The Dockers claimed the opening of first two sets 25-18 and 25-22, before weathering a spirited KDF fightback to eventually prevail 25-18; 25-22; 23-25; 25-17. KPA settled quickly, controlling the first set through aggressive serving, disciplined defensive coverage and balanced attacking position while playing. Then the Dockers built momentum with effective ball distribution and consistent execution at the net to take the opener to score 25-18.
Second set proved more competitive as KDF matched KPA point for point for long stretches. However, the Dockers maintained their composure during the closing rallies, with their attackers, finding key winners. While the backcourt, marshalled by the libero, kept difficult balls alive to edge the set 25-22 and moved within one of the final.
KDF refused to surrender in the third set and raised the tempo with improved blocking and sharper attacking to force an intense exchange of points. KPA remained within touching distance throughout, but KDF held its nerve in the decisive moments to snatch the set 25-23 and extended the contest.
KPA then regrouped immediately after dropping the third set and returned with renewed intensity in the fourth. The Dockers dominated from the outset with powerful serving, well-timed blocks and relentless attacking. The team opened a comfortable cushion before closing out the set 25-17 to secure the match and a return to the league championship.
Outside hitter Kamara spearheaded KPA team attacked with powerful spikes and solid defensive work. While Omollo, Wanyama, Brian and the libero combined effectively in both attack and defence to keep the Dockers in control for further encounter.
KPA Head Coach – Joel Koskei said that the team would quickly shift focus to the championship match against Chema Volleyball Club. He stated that the final will be tough because every team that reaches the top four of this highly competitive league deserves to be there. They will prepare well and will give their best.
KPA Volleyball Club Chairman – Geoffrey Kavate and Administration Manager – Catherine Wangare congratulated the players after the victory and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to support the team.
Considering this Kavate stated that they are very proud of team’s exceptional performance and the way they continue to promote the Authority’s brand both locally and internationally. They assured them to support completely in every needed aspect.
