Kenya: Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) commended Kenya for its progress in modernisation of port operations. Deputy Commissioner of RRA – General Innocente Murasi stated that the investments in technology and improvements to the processes has boosted efficiency and improved the competitiveness of the Port of Mombasa.
Kenya Ports Authority is progressing and considering this during the courtesy call, General Murasi commended Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Capt. William Ruto and praised team’s determination to sustain service delivery and address challenges that affect transit bound cargo.
According to Murasi, the progress achieved in resolving operational issues between the two States that has increased confidence among regional traders and contributed to logistics that are more predictable and efficient.
CEO of KPA – Capt. William Ruto addressed the delegations and highlighted the role of digital transformation, operational efficiencies and customer focused solutions in improving cargo clearance and shortening tur-around times at the ports. He reiterated commitment of KPA to work closely with regional partners to deliver operational excellence and ensure that transit cargo is handled efficiently and safely.
Capt. Ruto said that collaboration remains essential in supporting the regional integration. It expands trade opportunities and positions the Port of Mombasa as the preferred maritime gateway in the region. The discussions were mainly focused on deepening collaboration to support the regional and global supply chain needs. It will further improve port operations and will ensure smooth evacuation of cargo across the borders to advance regional economic integration.
Later, the delegation also toured the Port facilities to gain first hand insight on the ongoing investments including the Second Container Terminal, the Smart Gate system and the Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS).
Notably, this visit provided first-hand insight into key port investments under-pinning the transformation into a modern maritime hub in the region of Port of Mombasa. Deputy Comm. of RRA Murasi was accompanied by RRA Commissioner for Customs Services Sam Kabera and Regional Head Eugene Rukinga.
