Kenya: The Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ababu Namwamba bid farewell to a team of sportspersons for the African Games. The farewell event was hosted on the afternoon of March 1, 2024.
The 13th edition of the African Games are being hosted in Accra, Ghana with participants from all parts of the continent. The Ministry of Sports has extended its best wishes to the representatives of Kenya.
CS Ababu Namwamba expressed his confidence in the abilities of the team. He encouraged the country’s youngsters to put their best foot forward to record positive performance from the games.
“I have no doubt that you have the ability to compete and represent us well. There is no greater honor than flying your country’s flag. As such, I call on you to put all hands on deck, one for all and all for one,” CS Namwamba declared.
Cabinet Secretary Ababu emphasized that the country’s athletes play an important role in the country’s development. The  Cabinet Secretary further noted that he recognizes their role in shaping Kenya’s national heritage.
“As you all know, Kenya’s number one export is our sporting pedigree, they are the goose that lay the golden egg,” remarked the Cabinet Secretary.
During the flag off ceremony, Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba acknowledged the important role that the technical and management teams play in the athletes’ success. CS Ababu urged them to treat the athletes with utmost respect and honor they deserve.
He asserted that every individual involved in the ecosystem is essential for the success of Team Kenya in the upcoming sporting tournament.
The Cabinet Secretary further noted that the government is committed to the welfare of athletes in Kenya. He said “We have revised our rewarding system, and introduced a pension scheme that will ensure the well-being of both current and retired athletes.”
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy has shared some images from the flagging off ceremony. They expressed their sincere confidence that the team would make Kenya proud on the continental stage.
