Nigeria: A member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Idemili Branch was abducted from Abagana, Anambra on Saturday. The victim was on his way home from his work when he was abducted. The victim has been identified as CJS Azoro, serves as the secretary of the Idemili Branch
The Bar association is in a state of shock and dismay over the situation. The official reports from the Bar council and police suggest that the victim is currently in the custody of his captors.
The abductors have asked for ransom to return the suspect to his family safe and sound. After the demand was presented to the family members, they are making efforts to release the victim. However, the efforts are not bearing any fruits.
The Bar Council has asserted that they are disappointed with the actions that the law enforcement agencies have taken in this regard. The victim is in the captivity of his abductors for the last five days, starting Saturday evening.
The Anambra State has been struggling with increasing numbers of kidnapping incidents in the region. The Police force has reported concerning statistics with respect to crimes, such as robberies and abductions being on a rise.
Notably, some kidnappers had previously abducted a Nigerian native doctor, who was renowned in his community for his healing powers. This abduction victim, identified as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki allegedly had a lavish and luxury lifestyle.
He flaunted his wealth and lifestyle on social media, which may have attracted the attention of his abductors. The most recent abduction victim, CJS Azoro also enjoyed a relatively well off lifestyle and has been abducted for ransom.
The amount of the ransom has not been made public, but is being expected to be high. Meanwhile, as the secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Idemili Branch, the victim is a respectable and influential target.
The abduction of the law practitioner has left the community in a state of shock. As such, members of the Bar Association have pledged to make the higher authorities aware of the fact and ask for quicker action.
For this reason, the members of the bar council are boycotting appearances in all courts within and outside their jurisdiction. Additionally, they also pledged to step back from representing individuals charged with kidnapping or armed robbery.
The boycotting of the courts has started on Thursday, May 16 and will continue on Friday, May 17.
