Africa: Africa Weather Forecast launched its weekly summary (27 February – 05 March 2023) as per African weather reports, Light rainfall from isolated storms most afternoons as former Freddy moves back to the Mozambique Channel.
The tropical depression (former Freddy) will move north and shrink towards the Mozambique Channel. However, abundant moister while over the Channel will allow it to grow now headed to Madagascar later in the week.
Partly cloudy in the northeast with a high chance of light rainfall generally across the Lowveld but moderate in the far northeast. Otherwise, fine and warm to hot elsewhere with a high chance of light rainfall over the central interior from isolated thunderstorms connected to south-western Botswana. Low chance of high-impact storms over the eastern Northern Cape, western North West and western Free State this afternoon.
On Tuesday, high chance of scattered thunderstorms over the central interior but medium east of the central parts, where isolated storms are expected instead. Light rainfall below 30mm is expected for most storms as the tropical low (former Freddy) starts to pull moisture away from the country.
On Wednesday, most showers and thundershowers are expected over the eastern interior (east of central Free State) as dry and hot conditions take over other parts of the country. From Thursday onwards, thunderstorms shift back to the central interior, leaving the far northeast partly cloudy and warm for the first time after a prolonged rainy period.
The rains are expected to fully return to the west, southern and central interior on Friday and the weekend as a band of showers and thundershowers connected to the tropics precipitating light to moderate rainfall. They’re expected in the west and central interior on Friday, the south and central interior on Saturday but in the east and south on Sunday. Cooler temperatures may also accompany this system in the south and central interior as the east warms up slightly.
