Kenya: The Deputy CCF in-charge of Plantation Management and Inventory Andrew Soi met a team from Western Kenya Water Project (WKWP). The Deputy CCF was representing the Chief Conservator of Forest of the KFS in the meeting which was hosted on Tuesday.
The aim of the meeting was to gather the support of the Kenya Forest Service to ensure that all the remaining parties can think of a way managing their water resources judiciously. The Kenya Forest Service and the Western Kenya Water Project have been working towards sustainable use of their resources.
They to ensure that the organizations can support each other and work towards ensuring that the water resources are not exploited. During the meeting, they discussed the various ways in which they can use the water resources to nurture tree nurseries
The meeting targets the Lake Victoria South and North Basin areas through supporting Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs). They are working on the tree nurseries seedling production and tree growing project.
The officials who were present at the meeting discussed the importance of the organizations coming together for this common goal. The empowerment of WRUAs with the necessary resources to manage and sustain tree nurseries.
Further, the programme will promote reforestation and afforestation in the eight counties of Kenya. The programme will also contribute significantly to the attainment of 30% tree cover by 2032.
Deputy CCF in-charge of Plantation Management and Inventory Andrew Soi also met a team from PANAFCON Ltd. This meeting was hosted after the conclusion of the Deputy CCFs meeting with the Western Kenya Water Project.
The PANAFCON Ltd were looking for the Kenya Forest Service to provide their input and collaboration as a major stakeholder, in areas of data sharing and technical assessment into the development of Climate Adaptation & Resilience Plan for water and sewerage management within Nairobi county.
The Kenya Forest Service shared some images from both the meetings, highlighting the efforts of the KFS. They have been engaging various stakeholders to reach their goals of afforestation and climate acion.
