BAC International Academic Conference lends platform for educational discourse

Botswana: Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) hosted a International Academic Conference for three days. The event was attended by The Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Tertiary Education in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development Peter M. Choto.

The acting secretary delivered a brief keynote address on behalf of the Minister, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe. The academic conference is being hosted for three days at at Cresta Lodge, Gaborone.

The theme of the International Academic Conference is Sustainable Global Economic Recovery and Resilience from Crises through Knowledge Based Innovative and Creative Initiatives..

Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary, Choto said academic institutions drives intellectual discourse The aim of the initiative is to foster innovation and nurturing the succeeding generation of leaders and change-makers.

He further said that the conference aligns with Botswana’s transformational agenda and the Mindset Change initiative. He highlighted some  critical aspects of the initiative in front of the attendants  of the three day academic conference.

He stated that the initiative calls on the nation to embrace fresh perspective, challenge conventional thinking and adopting innovative approaches. The acting permanent secretary said it will help to address challenges faced by the nation and the world at large.

He also informed the gathering that education lies at the core of this transformative agenda This is proven by the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan of the government.

The gap between educational qualifications and the evolving demands of labour market while promoting outcome based education. Choto said his Ministry has managed to attain a significant milestones in advancing knowledge-based economy.

The efforts of the ministry of education and skill development led to the formation of a Language Policy in Education.

Further, the Ministry has distributed devices to  learners and educators in the Public Sector. And has established Botswana Satellite Station (BOTSAT) at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).

“As we reflect on the insights shared and connections forged during this conference, let us steadfastly commit to principles of innovation, collaboration and forward-thinking to propel Botswana and global community towards greater prosperity, resilience and success” the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary said.
