The Baringo Department of Health Services held a sensitization forum on Universal Health Coverage. It is an initiative for the local people. The Forum was held with various stakeholders in Koibatek Sub County, Kenya, today, (November) 24, 2023.

It was held in partnership with Population Services. The Forum aimed to Deliver Equitable and Sustainable Increases in the Family Planning (DESIP) programme.

The Forum emphasized the significant role of Health care in one’s life. Health care is one of the five core pillars of the bottom-up economic transformation agenda (BETA).

Universal Health Care seeks to diagnose or detect early, treat and carry out preventive measures at the community level rather than the current curative approach, which is more costly and unsustainable.

It ensures that everyone has access to high-quality health services and that health workers are providing services such as;
quality care
people-centred care
policymakers are committed to investing in universal health coverage.

As per the Health Ministry, if it succeeds, this model will decongest level 4 and 5 hospitals since most of the cases are handled at primary healthcare facilities (levels 2 & 3).

The Community Health Promoters also sensitize how residents can prevent some of these ailments, particularly those brought about by poor hygiene and sanitation.

The Forum brought together the County Health Management Team led by County Public Health Coordinator Dr. Robert Rono and County Family Physician Dr. Chrispine Kibichi, among other leaders.

The Government of Kwanza continues to strengthen the provision of Primary Health Care by implementing the Universal Health Care programme.

Reportedly, the Delivering Equitable and Sustainable Increases in Family Planning (DESIP) programme is a UK aid-funded programme. It focuses on delivering sustainable and equitable services for family planning. It aims to provide these services in low contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) counties in line with Kenya Vision “2030”.

The Programme is a collaborative step by the PS Kenya, Amref Kenya options, faith to action networks Health Right International, VSO Kenya and PSI.
