Cape Town: The school year is in full swing and welcomed ‘Bingo’ the anti-litter mascot to add some excitement to the classrooms. It entertained everyone at a jam-packed litter-awareness programme. The City of Cape Town officials urged the residents to book a bingo bin of school today and always.
Keeping the communities clean and green is a great responsibility of everyone residing in the city and there is no better way to spread this message than through the minds of impressionable youth of Cape Town.
The Mother City is keen to share the message of good cause. As, by sharing the anti-litter message through Bingo’s exciting programme, along with the Public Awareness Team of the Urban Waste Management Directorate, the local children will be able to learn about a serious problem through fun and engaging activities.
Furthermore, littering and dumping process is a wide-spread problem across Cape Town, with the city spending more than R100 million every year to clear the illegal dumping. The Bingo Bin Mascot initiative has instilled the idea of pride and accountability in the youth, as the City of Cape Town can tackle the problem head-on.
Reportedly, by last November, the anti-litter mascot ‘Bingo’ had made more than 600 appearances at schools, beaches and sporting events. During the festive season, Bingo made further official 352 visits.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Waste Management – Alderman Grant Twigg said that for the 2024-25 season to date, Bingo has done 952 visits.
The Urban Waste Management team encouraged the public to book Bingo, in order to help in drive and share the anti-litter message in a fun and more interactive way. According to Alderman Twigg they can keep the city Cape Town clean together.
Cape Town’s anti-litter mascot ‘Bingo’ is a part of the campaign trail i.e. the annual #SpringCleanCT campaign, introduced in year 2023.
As part of the #SpringCleanCT campaign, Bingo and the team are maintaining a bigger focus on the dangers of litter and dumping and the significance of recycling to reduce waste.
