Cape Town: The anti-litter TV ad campaign ‘Bingo Bin’ takes flight as the City of Cape Town is bringing anti-litter messaging back with a new TV and Digital Media ad campaign to the airwaves.
The ad considers the star of the commercial ‘Bingo’ which is an anti-litter mascot of the Cape Town and has modelled on the green litter bins of the city strategically, placed throughout the metro.
Reportedly, the anti-litter commercial uses cutting-edge digital production to show the rip-roaring journey of a piece of litter as being passed between the Capetonians. Earlier, it is sportily binned under the tagline ‘Bin it in the Bingo Bin’.

City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that many South Africans fondly remembered a time when anti-litter messaging was a regular presence on national airwaves. He highlighted, in Cape Town they will bring the civic pride back. As it is a part of their mission to create an anti-littering culture, especially among the new generation of Capetonians.
The Bingo TV ad campaign is one way and they were aiming to capture the imaginations and rally people behind the idea of taking pride in keeping Cape Town clean and green. “The public can get involved by sharing the campaign message to always bin it in the Bingo Bin,” concluded Mayor Lewis.
The 30 seconds commercial video begins with two high school learners discovering a piece of litter with Bingo urging them to bin it. In video the litter is sportily kicked out of the frame, zipping around Cape Town as Bingo chases different characters helping them to pass on the litter from young professionals and kids, to a delivery guy, then tik-tokker, a Bo-Kaap aunty and also a City waste removal official.

As it the ad comes to an end, the litter is finally binned in the green City litter bin with the slogan ‘bin it in the bingo bin’, that flashes onscreen. The commercial has already hit the airwaves over the school holidays that appeared on various free-to-air and satellite TV channels with a robust digital media schedule, which was completely planned as well.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Waste Management – Alderman Grant Twigg said that they asked the public to help them name the new anti-litter mascot back in 2023 and since then, Bingo has hit the campaign trail with over 600 school visits, as an eco-warriors reading the campaign in libraries and fronting the annual city-wide as #SpringCleanCT campaign.
Twigg added that the Schools and event organisers can also book ‘Bingo’ using a convenient online platform and filling in the request form with the mascot. It can be used as a regular bin too, at major sporting and cultural events in the city.
