Botswana: Road traffic accident on Saturday involved a motorist who knocked three Police Officers and an officer of the Botswana Defence Force. The officers who were injured in the accident were on foot patrol at Letlhakane Village in the early hours of Saturday.
Nearly three days after the fact, the Minister for State President, Moeti Caesar Mohwasa visited the 31-year-old Officer. He is receiving treatment and is currently hospitalized at a Private Hospital in Gaborone.
The Minister wished the Officer a speedy recovery on behalf of the President and Commander of the Armed Forces, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, adding that he hopes the Officer finds fast healing daily.
The officers was at the time working for the public with the aim of maintaining peaceful and incident free communities during the festivals.
The Officers who were involved in the accident were working under a joint festive season Operation, “OPERATION PABALESEGO”. The operation was being implemented by the collaboration of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and Botswana Defence Force (BDF).
The Officer’s father had extended his sincere thanks to the Minister and the Government for keeping the officer in mind and remaining compassionate. The officer’s father said that his son has been supported since the day the accident happened.
The officer’s family said that he was receiving high quality of medical attention and they hope he will make a quick recovery.
The Officer also extended his sincere gratitude towards the Minister. He said that he is feeling much better after the treatment.
Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo, and the Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe, wished the Officer well and assured him that they would do everything to support him in getting back to action soon.
Meanwhile, two other Police Officers involved in the accident have been discharged from the hospital. Meanwhile, Botswana Defence Force officer, Lance Corporal Bakwena Modimoeng of Thamaga, will be laid to rest on Saturday at Thamaga.
The 31-year-old motorist responsible for the accident has been identified as Kedumetse Morolong of Letlhakane. He has been taken to court for eight counts one of which is murder and seven for attempted Murder. He has been sent to remand and will reappear in front of court on January 13.
