Botswana: The people of Botswana will be electing their government in the upcoming general elections. The Police Service of Botswana has been working hard to get ready for the upcoming elections.
The Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe, has urged police officers to uphold the rule of law in their duty. She urged them to strengthen the country’s existing democratic credentials during the upcoming General Elections.
The elections are being hosted all over the nation on October 30. The whole nation is preparing for the event in different capacities. The Botswana Police Service has shared several images from the Commissioner’s address on their social media.
High level officials from all over the country had been present at the event.
The Commissioner of Police addressed her team of Senior Officers on Monday in Gaborone. The aim of the address was to appreciate the state of the Organisation’s readiness for the forthcoming General Elections.
She noted that the Botswana Police Service (BPS) is a crucial stakeholder involved in the success of the elections. The with vital responsibilities to ensure that this national assignment is conducted in a safe and secure environment. She assured the nation that the BPS is prepared to diligently deliver secure and peaceful elections that resonate well with the country’s acknowledged democratic dispensation.
Commissioner Marathe informed the meeting that the elections are expected to attract International Election Observers. The IEC includes members from various Organisations such as:
- The Southern African Development Community (SADC)
- The African Union (AU)
- The United Nations (UN)
- The Commonwealth
- International Human Rights Organisations
- International Media.
Commissioner Marathe therefore, said police officers must exercise the highest degree of professionalism when performing their duties.
The Commissioner emphasised the need to ensure the safety and security of the electorates, election observers, election officers, voters and the nation at large, calling on police officers to be courteous, patient and resilient.
She appreciated police officers’ efforts in serving the nation with pride and unmatched commitment. She also acknowledged the community’s unwavering contribution and participation in fighting crime.
