Cape Town: The Community, Arts and Culture Development Department of City of Cape Town in partnership with the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative hosted a Skills and Entrepreneurship Training Programme in Area South.
The training programme began on August 12, 2024 and concluded on October 09, 2024, where all participants between the age of 18 and 35 were divided into groups and attended three days of training.
Reportedly, the training session covered basic business skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, transformative peace building and CACD work skills.
As per the sources, two hundred and fifty (250) youngsters completed their training. The visitors belonged to the regional places such as Westridge – Mitchel’s Plain; Imizamo Yethu – Hout Bay; Gugulethu; Retreat; Grassy Park; Masiphumelele and Capricorn.
Furthermore, CACD organised a graduation event for the participants, in order to celebrate the successful completion of the training interventions on October 16, 2024 at the Wynberg Civic Centre.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross made her statement.
She expressed that their team of officials is delighted to see so many young people who participated in the training programme and completed it too. The training session was arranged mainly to provide learning opportunities that are important in unlocking the potential and economic opportunities for youngsters of Cape Town.
Patricia Van der Ross extended her gratitude and wishes to the organisers and participants and also the other visitors, who were present there, for making the event successful. While extending her wishes she said, “We would like to once again congratulate all those who completed the course and wished them the best of luck.”
The purpose of the Community, Arts and Culture Development Department is to ‘Build the City by Building its People’ through their actions and priorities that outlined in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
Moreover, the department accomplished it by delivering developmental programmes to vulnerable and impoverished communities across the city to enhance resilience and improve well-being of the citizens.
Through these provisions of targeted services, the department aims to contribute towards the promotion of social and economic development. To promote safe and healthy environment, encourage the involvement of communities in matters of Local Government as mandatory in Section-152 of the Constitution of South Africa.
It mainly focuses on Arts, Culture and Heritage Programmes, Community Engagement, Provide Job opportunities through Expanded Public Works Programme to assist in service delivery. The delivery of targetted programme including early childhood development, youth development, homeless people, substance abuse and vulnerable groups.
